I like to write in my journal and talk about my adventure with the birds!

A Fun Easter DIY Treat!!

With Easter coming up right around the corner, I’ve been experimenting with some fun little Easter treats! My favourite treat that I have come up with is Easter nest cupcakes!!

They’re super cute and super easy to make! I’ll include photos at the bottom of this post, but I’ll start with how to make them 🙂

First of all, use whatever cupcake recipe or box that you’d prefer. Normally I would make my cupcakes from scratch from one of my own recipes, but this time I just used boxed chocolate cupcakes! They turned out delicious as well!

My next step was making the nests while the cupcakes baked and cooled! This part is so easy, but makes all the difference when it comes to these Easter cakes!

All you need is some chocolate of your choice – I used 3 cadbury milk chocolate bars (they were on sale), and shredded wheat! Which you find in the cereal isle.

Take a pot filled to about half way with water and bring it to a boil, place another bowl on top that sits above the water on the pot and then place your chocolate in it until it’s completely melted!

After it’s melted, transfer your bowl of melted chocolate over to a place that is safe to place a hot bowl on.

Mix in your shredded wheat as you crumple it into the bowl. Add to a desired mix, but be sure that the mix is mouldable into the nest shape and that it’s not too chocolatey! You want it to hold the shape.

Take spoonfuls of the mixture and place it into a muffin tin liner and push it down just a little bit in the middle. Then add however many mini eggs you’d like to add! I chose to do 2 at a time because they were slightly bigger eggies than usual 🙂

Once you’ve used all your mixture to make the nests, place them in the fridge to set for a couple hours. However, if you need to store them for a while, you don’t need to keep them in the fridge over night. You can place them anywhere, but cover them in saran wrap to keep them fresh! I stored mine on the kitchen table!

My next step was to make icing for the cupcakes. I would tell you my recipe for icing, but it’s a basic buttercream, and I know there are so many icing recipes online that will explain it much simpler than I would! So check out a recipe online!!

All I did was put the icing in a piping bag and then piped it onto the cupcakes once they were completely cooled, and then put the little nests on top once they were set! It all turned out great! I was so happy with it!!

Here are my photos!

If you ever make these cupcakes send me photos on Instagram or Twitter!!

Until next time…

New Music!

Lately I have dedicated a lot of my time to writing new music. I’ve been on a roll with writing some new tunes and I’m super excited to get them recorded and going in order to get a final product!

I have a list of ideas that I want to write a bunch of new songs about. There’s everything between cooking, dancing, being kind, hanging out with friends and so many more!

I’ve said this before – but you can write a song about ANYTHING! You just have to put your mind to it, let yourself be inspired and then give it a go!

I’m super excited for this process, writing and recording is something I love so much! The birds are having a great time as well, because they also love to write songs! 🙂 Skinny and Dippy have written some of my absolute favourite songs! For instance, they wrote Baby Birdie Bop, and that’s a song that I just HAVE to dance to anytime I hear it!

I can’t wait to share the new tunes with you in the future 🙂

Until next time…

Plant a Flower!

Today, Monday March 12, is National Plant a Flower Day!

Now, I absolutely ADORE flowers. Every time I walk past a flower, I insist on smelling it, and just enjoying it! Flowers are such a beautiful and natural way to put a smile on my face!

Think about it! Of course some grow naturally, but in most cases, someones hard-working and happy hands planted those flowers there. Not only are they beautiful, AND they smell good, but they help bees!

Flowers benefit bees by providing them with all of the food their colonies need to survive. But not only that… Bees help flowers as well! Bees help flowering plants reproduce, via pollination! I find nature fascinating! It’s so cool to think of all the different ways that natural things in our environments benefit one another.

So here is my challenge to you today, but not only today – let’s plant flowers! Let’s make little gardens in our backyard! We can plant flowers, like tulips and sunflowers, but we can also plant and grow tomatoes! Peas! Broccoli! Lettuce! The list goes on! I’ve always wanted a veggie garden, and I think now’s my chance! At the magical tree we could definitely use a vegetable garden 🙂

Another amazing flower-based activity is the Tulip Festival! There are different ones that you can go to all over the world, but the one I went to was the Abbotsford Tulip Festival. It was incredible! To be surrounded by so many tulips of different colours… Amazing! I can’t wait to go again.

I guess I’m just really excited for Spring!! 😀

Here are a couple of my favourite flower photos!

Funny Memories Found in Photos!

I was going through photos from a few years ago! I found some really nice memories while going through them. One of my absolute favourites that I found is this:

This photo is from about 6 years ago. It’s a photo of Pip staring at a little ducky in our bathtub in our home. We found the cutest and most innocent little duckling in our back yard completely by themselves. The little guy looked a little confused and lonely, so we wrapped them in a towel and brought him into our house. It was later in the evening, so at the time no animal humane society or bird sanctuary was open. We decided to keep the little guy around for the night. So we made him a warm little home in a crate, where he could sleep for the evening. By this point, the little duck seemed quite comfortable.

In the morning we filled up the bathtub and let him do a little bit of swimming around. Eventually we called the bird sanctuary, and they told us that we’d be okay to bring the little duck in, and he would get all of the proper care he would need there! Of course we really loved the little guy, but it wouldn’t have been fair to keep him – we don’t know how to raise a duck, and they aren’t domestic animals! They need to be raised in the wild, along with other ducks. So the bird sanctuary seemed like the best option.

We took the duck to the bird sanctuary, said our goodbyes, and knew that he was going to be raised along other ducks. It felt good knowing we were doing the right thing. But I do miss him sometimes!

If you ever find an animal that ever needs help, there are a ton of resources that you can use and reach out to in order to find the right thing to do regarding helping the animal. Be smart! Take care of the animals around you, and give your pet some extra hugs today!

Until next time…

I’ve been writing!

Recently I’ve felt a wave of inspiration and so naturally I’ve been writing as much as possible! I wrote a brand new song to come out in the future, not sure when yet, but I’m excited for when it does 🙂

You can really find inspiration in so many different things, honestly, you can find inspiration in anything! In the past I’ve written songs due to inspiration from nature, family, friends, animals, books, television, my home, movies, and the list goes on and on and on. It just depends on the way you’re looking at the things in your life, they could be mundane, or they could inspire you!

So here’s a little tip: take a walk around the neighbourhood, and around your house! Notice the little things, like the colour of the grass, the frost on the cars, how the blanket is curled on your couch. Think about how seeing that object makes you feel. Are you cozy? Happy? Tired? Hungry? Write about it!

I think the thing that keeps my inspiration flowing, is the constant writing of all of my little feelings! I think having it down on paper just keeps the creative juices flowing.

Here are a few photos of things that have inspired me 🙂

Snow Day!

It snowed a ton here yesterday, and today it’s such a beautiful day out!

This is just a quick little post saying that I hope you have the chance to get outside and play! The birds, Pip and I had a ton of fun today! We went to a local park and sled down the big hills there! So much fun 😀

Here’s a pic of Pip and I about to sled down!

Enjoy the wonderful sunshiny day 😀

A Very Fun Week!

This week I have been spending a lot of time with the birds, and it has been so wonderful!

As you know if you’ve read my previous blog posts, I was away on vacation recently, and then I came home with a no fun, no good cold! So unfortunately I haven’t had much time to spend with the birds over the past few weeks, so this week we’ve been spending a ton of time together.

Dorothy and I had a wonderful afternoon on Monday, we read and drank hot chocolate! It was so nice to have some girl time, and just chat! Dorothy has been doing really well lately! She’s been writing some new tunes, and singing a lot of her favourites as well!

I also spent some time with Marty and Bazza, we went over to the closest park to the magical tree, we played on the playground and tossed a baseball around! I can’t wait for the Spring and Summer time, being at the park made me so excited for the sunshiny days 🙂

I’m visiting the black brothers in an hour or so today, and I’m really looking forward to seeing them!! Skinny and Dippy having been playing a lot of kazoo lately! They say they’ve been learning a lot of fun new songs that they want me to sing with them, so I can’t wait to try it out!

That’s all for now 🙂 I’ll chat to you all later!

Until next time…

Congratulations to Juno Nominees!

Today they announced the Juno nominations. The Juno’s are the award show that celebrates and recognizes a lot of wonderful Canadian artists. Although they don’t recognize all great Canadian artists (because there are a TON of incredible artists out there), they did nominate some close friends of ours!

In the Children’s category they nominated all incredibly talented artists! Our friends Fred Penner, and Bobs & Lolo got nominated, alongside Splash and Boots, The Moblees, and Big Block Singsong!

Seeing the Canadian music board recognize wonderful children’s artists makes my heart happy. But I’m incredibly happy because this time around I had the absolute honour of singing on Bobs & Lolo’s nominated album, “Blue Skies.”

Back in the summertime, these two lovely gals (and their ampersand, Mario) invited me to sing some harmonies on one of their super fun songs, called “Scrub Scrub.” So after finishing a weekend of shows in Whistler, I came home and popped right over to their studio in North Vancouver, where I spent the afternoon singing and dancing along to their songs with Mario, who produced it! It was one of the most fun and upbeat recording sessions I’ve ever had! Once I heard the song in full with my harmonies, I was hooked! Not only was it a great song, but it was a fantastic album as well. It has so much positive messaging, and every time I listen to it, it just makes me happy!

One thing I love about the Children’s music community is how we all support one another, everyone is always willing to have one another’s back, and it’s a very encouraging and welcoming community to be in. I feel very lucky to be apart of this 🙂

I look forward to watching the Juno’s and to continue supporting Canadian music!

I’ll include a couple fun photos from when I recorded for B&L in the post below!

Until next time…

Disneyland!! A Magical Adventure :)

I just got home from Disneyland and it was so incredible! I had only been once before, when I was about 6 or 7 years old. I was too short for all of the rides back then! (To be honest I thought I could’ve possibly had the same issue this time too, but nope! Thank goodness) I had an absolute blast. I really must say… Disneyland does feel like the happiest place on earth. It’s a perfect trip for families with children, and for the child in all of us 😉

From meeting the characters, to riding the rides, eating the delicious dole whip and everything in between, it was all just so wonderful. One of my favourite rides was Indiana Jones, which can be a little frightening for the little ones, but there were some brave little riders on it having a great time! It takes you through such a journey, and it was just so much fun!

We also met Minnie who is just so sweet, she is super bubbly and fun! Of course I bought the Minnie ears with the red sparkly bow, to match my red sparkly bow that I wear every show! Who knows, maybe one day we’ll do a Disney themed show and I can wear my Minnie ears! We also ate Dole Whip, which is a pineapple sorbet soft serve, and it is DELICIOUS! To those soft serve and pineapple lovers out there, if you ever find yourself in Disneyland, you MUST try it!

I just had so much fun. The only thing that could’ve made it better is if the birds were there to enjoy it with me! I think they would’ve had the best time as well. They all stayed home and wrote some new tunes and just enjoyed one another’s company! Which sounds just as fun! But maybe next time they’ll join me on a fun adventure to another magical place!

I’m happy to be home, I can’t wait to put my vacation inspiration to good use, and to write some new tunes to share with you well 🙂

Well, that’s all for now.

Until next time…
